Resilient by Nature – Bio-based technologies for robust supply chains

This project develops sustainable thermoset resins using biomass waste from Scandinavian agriculture and forestry – an innovative shift from fossil-based inputs. The goal is to create high-performance materials for industrial use while supporting climate goals, rural development, and circular economy principles.
The consortium includes PaperShell (lead), RISE, and TransFurans Chemicals (TFC). TFC identifies and characterizes regional feedstocks. RISE develops a decentralised production process tailored for small-scale manufacturing. PaperShell validates the material in composite applications and leads the scale-up strategy.
The project will demonstrate the process at industrial scale and assess its environmental and economic performance through life cycle and techno-economic analysis. Key milestones include successful synthesis from regional biomass, performance validation, and a commercialisation roadmap.
Expected impacts include reduced fossil dependence, lower transport emissions, and new value creation in rural areas. The project supports Sweden’s climate targets and contributes to EU goals for sustainable industrial transformation.
Results will be shared through open-access publications, industry engagement, and public outreach.
